This is a fantastic achievement and a clear acknowledgement of Nuvia’s commitment to health and safety, reflecting our consistent high performance in health and safety management continuous improvement, innovation and development.
The judges were particularly impressed by our leadership, in health and safety, and praised our approach to innovation. They also noted our strong focus on consultation and engagement with the workforce as being key to achieving positive outcomes.
In addition, Nuvia’s commitment to succession planning and the future of the profession was also identified as outstanding by the judges. They were impressed with our investment in STEM ambassadors in schools and the exemplary opportunities given to apprentices and new recruits for their personal and professional development
Errol Taylor, RoSPA’s chief executive, said: RoSPA’s vision is of life, free from serious accidental injury, and we look to our award winners to help us achieve this goal, and to ensure their employees go home to their families, safe and well, at the end of each working day. Nuvia is the embodiment of this vision, and an exemplary winner of the Sir George Earle Trophy.
We were pleased to see that the company is actively sharing learning and knowledge outside of its own walls, spreading its health and safety expertise throughout its parent company and with SMEs. As the trophy winner, Nuvia will now be invited to join RoSPA’s National Occupational Safety and Health Committee to extend its reach even further.
Nuvia’s CEO, Keith Collett, said: This award is for everyone at Nuvia; our staff, our contractors and our supply chain. It shows that the actions and attitudes of all our people towards safety, health and environment have created the kind of culture we first talked about a decade ago. It shows that our focus on workforce involvement, developing talent from within and an effective leadership have given the results we hoped for.
This is an important milestone on our journey but it doesn’t mean we’ve reached the end of that road – if anything, it means we have to be at the top of our game all the time now as we will have to constantly prove we are worthy of this great award.
Sir George Earle Trophy
The pinnacle of the RoSPA Awards scheme is the Sir George Earle Trophy. This prestigious trophy is internationally recognised as the premier performance award for occupational health and safety.
This trophy was donated to RoSPA in 1956 by Sir George Earle, then President of the Associated Portland Cement Manufacturers Ltd to promote and celebrate outstanding contributions to health and safety at work.
This award is presented to the best sector award winner following a site visit and an interview with the awards adjudication panel.
