On 1st November in Warrington Nuvia teamed up with charity Blue Apple Veterans and guests to celebrate the launch of a new partnership as part of the VINCI UK Foundation programme.
The VINCI UK Foundation, funded by VINCI businesses across the UK and Ireland, supports groups and charities which work to tackle exclusion, foster community integration and improve access to employment and housing. Launched in early 2016, the Foundation is unique in its support for good causes due to its specific focus and provision of skilled volunteers.
Grants awarded help charities to purchase or upgrade assets such as tools and equipment or ICT and facilities refurbishment, which in turn benefits some of the most vulnerable people in society.
Under the partnership Blue Apple will receive c.£18,000 funding to cover the cost of purchasing a minibus to facilitate the charity’s work with veterans across the region. Sponsors from Nuvia will also support the project by sharing their marketing, project management and engineering expertise.
Blue Apple Veterans offers support to socially excluded military veterans, and the wider community, suffering from a variety of issues including mental illness (e.g. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), physical disability, marital difficulties, worklessness and homelessness. The charity runs a successful drop-in centre and coffee shop – Café Blue Apple in Warrington town centre – which acts as a base for veterans to meet other people with similar experiences, and also has facilities for service users to receive advice and support. The Café is open to members of the public and all profits are channelled back into the running of the charity.
Mark Smith, Founder of Blue Apple Veterans, stated: Many veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder struggle to be around people or in busy environments, which can contribute to them being socially excluded. That’s why we’re delighted to receive this grant from the VINCI UK Foundation which will improve our transport offering, allowing us to reach more veterans as well as reinstating the popular veterans’ days out. We’re also looking forward to accessing Nuvia expertise to help with our marketing drive to raise awareness of the charity.
Keith Collett, Chief Executive of Nuvia, commented: Nuvia is delighted to be part of the VINCI UK Foundation, making a real difference in communities across Britain and Ireland. I’m confident the support provided by Nuvia’s staff, combined with the generous funding grants from our Foundation, will hugely benefit Blue Apple Veterans and we look forward to developing our partnership throughout the course of the year.
