Nuvia with its joint venture German partner Sommer Design & Security has been awarded a c. £60 million contract by EDF Energy to design, manufacture, install and commission the Nuclear Security Doors at Hinkley Point C (HPC) EPR site.
The nuclear security doors and other equipment are in a number of different buildings and levels across the site. These doors are complex in nature and help protect the physical security of the Plant’s operations whilst providing protection from a conventional safety perspective.
Our strategic partner, Sommer, is a family owned business that has been operating for over 120 years and has an impressive pedigree in the design & manufacture of specialised high security products for the building security sector, in particular for use in nuclear & critical infrastructure facilities around the world.
Nuvia’s expertise delivering complex multi-discipline design and build projects to clients’ specific requirements and timescales will be vital to the contracts success – – which is a crucial component in the fabric of the first new nuclear power station to be constructed in the UK for a generation.
Hinkley Point C will create around 25,000 job opportunities over its period of construction and employ 900 people during operation of the power station.
Our partner’s Managing Owner, Oliver Sommer, has also confirmed that his company were happy to be able to harness their extensive experience of supplying specialist engineered products to other international EPR projects with their existing client EDF, to the professional sector wide strengths of Nuvia UK, in order that the combined business could work to develop & ultimately secure this highly technical & logistically challenging Hinkley Point C UK contract.
The contract commenced in March 2018 and will be delivered over a six-year period.
