Three Lakes Challenge for Charity

10 November 2008

Four members of Nuvia's Health Physics Team at Windscale, Lee Hardon, Alison Kitchen, Robert Jobson and Gary Beatson took part in the Three Lakes Challenge to raise money for the West Cumberland Children's Ward at Whitehaven.

The challenge consisted of paddling the length of three Cumbrian lakes: Ullswater, Windermere, and Coniston; approximately 26 miles in total.

None of the team had ever been in a canoe before so their feat was all the more impressive.

The canoes were supplied by event organisers, Distant Horizons outdoor adventure activity group along with wet suits, transportation between the lakes, food and drink, training and life guards. A £100 entry fee per competitor was levied to cover these costs and Nuvia was happy to reimburse the team's outlay in order to maximise their sponsorship and hard work.

The team presented a cheque for £1000 to a grateful Children's Ward shortly after the event. Team captain, Lee told us, "The presentation went well and the staff were very grateful. The money is going to be spent on patient comforts, ie books, videos dvd's etc. By the way we are all donating £50 each from the cheques you sent. Thank you again, for your continued support."

Congratulations to Lee, Alison, Robert and Gary for their fantastic achievement.
