RWE NUKEM Sponsors Sports Coaching in Caithness

30 July 2004
Sport in Caithness is to set to receive a £7500 cash injection. RWE NUKEM, a major contractor working at Dounreay, has made a 5 year commitment to the Caithness Sports Council to provide financial assistance to support volunteers who provide coaching in Caithness.
The primary aim will be to provide individuals with financial support to gain sports coach qualifications, and to assist in the development and revalidation of existing coaches.
Steve Burness, the Senior Manager for RWE NUKEM at Dounreay commented, “good coaching is important at all levels of sport, be it recreational or competitive, young or old. We are all too aware of the increasing costs faced by volunteers to obtain the correct qualifications or maintain their qualifications through coach development or revalidation. By supporting coaching and coach development everyone benefits in the short, medium and long term.”
Roger Saxon, the Chairman of the Caithness Sports Council said that “The Sports Council is delighted to receive this support from RWE NUKEM. We are acutely aware that local sports clubs can only survive and succeed through volunteer commitment. Anything that makes volunteering easier is to be welcomed. We would hope to use this money not only to support people attending coaching courses but perhaps to set up courses here in Caithness to enable more people to benefit.”
Alan Hoseason, Coaching Development Officer for Gael Force Ten commented "RWE NUKEM is to be congratulated on its sponsorship vision which has been designed to invest in the area's sporting future. By funding coach education opportunities for clubs in the Caithness area, they are ensuring that there is a strong coaching force for the community allowing people not only to participate in sport, but also to achieve their maximum potential. Gael Force Ten is the coaching development project for the Highlands and we are absolutely delighted to see the business sector realising the importance of sport in the community. I am certain that the partnership with Caithness Sports Council will prove to be a tremendous initiative for Caithness."
