The Programme

The Nuvia Graduate scheme is a 2 year programme that will support you in building your technical and business skills which will act as a platform to launch your career.

Nuvia Graduates

You'll be a member of a team, contributing to the achievement of real business objectives and will be assigned to live projects - some of which are the largest and most exciting projects taking place within the nuclear industry. You will interface with other engineering disciplines; project managers and nuclear safety specialists.

Our strength and reputation is founded not just on the technical ability of our staff, but on their personal qualities as well. In any role you will need to show determination, excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team. We also expect a number of our graduates to possess the commercial flair, initiative and leadership qualities to develop into managers of the future.

Over the two year programme you will learn modern engineering and design techniques and how to apply your developing mechanical engineering knowledge and skills within a vibrant nuclear environment to meet the challenges of a live project for all or any part of the whole project life-cycle.

We continually develop our staff through exposure to various Computer-aided engineering (CAE) software tools. As such you will gain experience of 2D and 3D design and modelling using;

  • AutoCAD Inventor
  • Plant Design Management System (PDMS) software
  • FEA stress calculations using Ansys for mechanical systems and
  • CAESARII for Pipe Stress Analysis

In addition you will gain appreciation of other design and engineering delivery tools like 3D Plant Throughput Modelling software and 3D & 4D planning tools for efficient project delivery.

You will also have the almost unique opportunity to work within a fully integrated project community of Nuclear Engineers and Specialists which include engineers in Process, EC&I Civil Structural and Nuclear Architects; Radiation and Health Physics Specialists, Nuclear Safety Case Consultants, Heating, Cooling and Nuclear Ventilation Engineers, Piping and Vessel Engineers etc., who are all essential to deliver a modern and safe nuclear facility in the UK (and abroad).

Over the two-year programme you will gain an appreciation for the design life-cycle; by being involved in the initial concept design through optioneering, detailed design, procurement, installation, commissioning, operation and decommissioning.

You will have the opportunity to work within a fully integrated project community of nuclear engineers and specialists, which include mechanical engineers, electrical, control and instrumentation (EC&I) engineers, civil, structural and architectural (CS&A) engineers, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) engineers, radiation and health physics specialists and nuclear safety case consultants, who are all essential to deliver a modern and safe nuclear facility in the UK (and abroad).

The graduate programme is accredited by the Institute of Chemical Engineers (IChemE). On this two-year programme you will learn modern engineering and design techniques and how to apply your developing chemical engineering knowledge and skills within a vibrant nuclear environment to meet the challenges of a live project for all or any part of the whole project lifecycle. The knowledge and experience you acquire through your two-year graduate training will support you in becoming a Chartered Engineer.

Over the two year programme you will learn Mechanical Building Services and HVAC engineering knowledge and skills, including specialized containment ventilation design, within a vibrant nuclear environment to meet the challenges of nuclear facilities on live projects for all or any part of the whole project life-cycle.

We continually develop our staff through exposure to various Computer-aided engineering (CAE) software tools. As such you will gain experience of 2D and 3D design and modelling using;

  • AutoCAD Inventor and REVIT
  • Plant Design Management System (PDMS) software
  • HAVACOMP design/calculation software
  • PIPENET design/modelling software

In addition you will gain an understanding of the design requirements and procedures for both UK and overseas clients and be given an opportunity to visit operating facilities to view Building Services and HVAC plant and equipment in operation.

You will also have the almost unique opportunity to work within a fully integrated project community of Nuclear Engineers and Specialists which include engineers in Mechanical, Process, EC&I Civil Structural and Nuclear Architects; Radiation and Health Physics Specialists, Nuclear Safety Case Consultants, Piping and Vessel Engineers etc., who are all essential to deliver a modern and safe nuclear facility in the UK (and abroad).

Over the two year programme you will learn modern engineering and design techniques and how to apply you're developing Structural and Civil engineering knowledge and skills within a vibrant nuclear environment to meet the challenges of a live project for all or any part of the whole project life-cycle.

We continually develop our staff through exposure to various Computer-aided engineering (CAE) software tools. As such you will gain experience of 2D and 3D design and modelling using;

  • AutoCAD Inventor
  • Autocad Revit
  • FEA stress calculations using Ansys, staad pro, tedds and mathcad

We will mentor and guide you through to the appropriate level of professional qualification through accredited professional schemes through the ICE (Institute of Civil Engineers) and IstructE (Institute of Structural Engineers).

You will also have the almost unique opportunity to work within a fully integrated project community of Nuclear Engineers and Specialists which include engineers in Process, EC&I Civil Structural and Nuclear Architects; Radiation and Health Physics Specialists, Nuclear Safety Case Consultants, Heating, Cooling and Nuclear Ventilation Engineers, Piping and Vessel Engineers etc., who are all essential to deliver a modern and safe nuclear facility in the UK (and abroad).

Regardless of which discipline you enter, you are responsible for driving your own development. Our graduate programme is designed to meet your needs and the future needs of the business; as such there is no fixed path. All graduate roles come with responsibilities - so you’ll need to hit the ground running.

As a graduate Trainee you will be registered on the appropriate Institution's Development Scheme to enable you to obtain Chartered status at the earliest opportunity. We are proud to say that our programme is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and Institution of Chemical Engineers (ICHemE).
